Jersey Shore season six premiered in America on MTV on October the twelfth 2012. The music channel had already announced that this was to be the last season of Jersey Shore and its documentary style reality TV show about eight perma-tanned party animals. Their hard-partying shenanigans are set against the backdrop of a shared house in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
The eight immature housemates originally hit the small screen for MTV audiences on December 3rd 2009. The house-mates have also performed on vacation in Florence, Italy in addition to Miami. Anywhere they happen, the intoxicated incidents, feuds, frolics and fights are certain to be captured on camera.
These four orange-skinned girls and four muscle-bound guys have made a total of seventy-one episodes; each lasting forty-two minutes. The idea for this “loud, young, bold” program was developed by SallyAnn Salsano for MTV. Her experiences of similar summer house shares nudged her in this particular direction. The hilarity is created by the dysfunctional, showboating cast.
Initially, the cast constituted of Michael (aka “The Situation“) Sorrentino, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Paul DelVecchio (also known by the pseudonym of “Pauly D” in the blossoming career as a DJ that his growing celebrity status has helped), Vinny Guadagnino, Nicole (“Snooki“) Polizzi, Jennifer (“JWoww”) Farley, Sam (“Sweetheart”) Giancola, and Angelina Pivarnick. After the conclusion of the second season, Nicole Cortese took the place of Angelina. As you possibly will assume from their names, quite a few of the house-mates are of Italian-American extraction.
This Italian background prompted the stars to proclaim themselves to be “guidos and guidettes“. The exploitation of these expressions has caused controversy because the Italian-American community consider the terms to be ethnic slurs. A number of organizations decided to cancel their advertising over these concerns.
Thirty-five remote-controlled cameras in fixed locations, twelve hand-held cameras, six DV cameras and one IMX camera capture the cast’s every move. This format quickly built a following which peaked at an audience figure of 8.87million in season three. Ratings remained strong but were falling before the announcement that series six would be the last.
Snooki being heavy with child, spin-off endeavours for such stars of the show as Farley, DelVecchio and Polizzi, in addition to Guadagnino’s talk show venture are alleged to be amongst the complications which inclined MTV’s executives towards the assessment that it was time for the program to be terminated. Snooki above all has projected the image of a pint-sized trouble-maker. DVDs of all six series are currently available.
This ‘out of this world’ show has been such a phenomenal success, that when Jersey Shore season six was aired, its stars enjoyed lucrative personal endorsements for goods like fragrances, sunglasses, energy drinks and slippers. Products like Halloween outfits, beach game kits, a diverse variety of clothing, and even bobble-headed talking dolls of the characters are on sale. The music video promoting “I Like It”, Enrique Iglesias’ hit track also features all 8 cast members of this great show.
Jersey Shore Season 6 Trailer
Music television is pretty commonplace today. But before MTV it really was not. Many people had to go to great lengths to watch music videos of their favorite artists, and that was when there were few and far apart. The whole concept of this channel was questioned and many believed, wrongly, that it would not last more than 5 years.
This channel started in August 1981 after such shows as American Bandstand, and other hits on television that showcased various musicians. Based in New York City the edgy nature of the channel helped inspire some of the changes we see in our culture today. Arguably you can say that MTV started the whole reality television craze in America with their show “The Real World” and its follow up “Road Rules” so many have to thank MTV for that.
Some of the iconic images of this channel include the infamous spaceman which is used to award artists during their own music television awards show. The very video played when this channel launched was ironically The Buggles “Video Killed the Radio Star” and that was later followed up by Pat Benatar’s “You Better Run” and hence this channel started.
Today it may be difficult to actually watch a music video on MTV as many times there are shows in place of what were once wall to wall pure music videos. Purists have really stopped watching this channel all together and lately MTV has become a hodgepodge of popular culture. Has MTV really deviated from this path it set out?
The future of this channel is dubious. The advents of various forms of streaming music as well as video websites such as YouTube, Vimeo, and others have made the need for a channel devoted to music videos irrelevant. Only time can tell if there will be some great innovative shows that come from the executive producers in the New York Headquarters.
Just about everyone who is under 30 years old has heard of this person by the name of Snooki. While many may not watch “The Jersey Shore” on MTV this one person has appeared on various other shows. Having gained fame for her wild antics on television as well as her relationship with her boyfriend this person is famous for being famous.
Now the merits to her fame are debatable. Simply put she is like watching a train wreck; you know you shouldn’t watch but it is hard to keep your eyes off of her. Her name “Snooki” is just a nickname for her real name which is Nicole Elizabeth Polizzi. What are remarkable are how young she is as she was born on November 23, 1987 and also her current salary for the show which has been reported to be 150K per episode.
Having such fame and success at such an early age can go to anyone’s head. Whether or not Snooki is performing antics outside of her show to get attention or not is debatable but since she recently gave birth this may soon come to a stop.
Snooki as an author?
Now this person has written a book called “A Shore Thing” that was far from being successful. Perhaps it was the persona that Snooki chose to portray on her show that turned off so many readers, or it could be people just love to hate her for some reason.
The follow up book for this was called Confessions of a Guidette and this was designed to be a supposed guide on how to party like they do on Jersey Shore. Sales for these types of books are not spectacular but at least Nicole can claim to be an author which is far more than many others of her own age.
The last book she has written is the sequel to the “A Shore Thing” and it is called Gorilla Beach. The novel never did reach the level of success other reality television show personalities have had with their books but at least Snooki is building a range of books in her collection.
With these releases of her books her agents have booked her on other shows such as David Letterman, The Ellen Degenerious Show, The View, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Despite the book tour and all that expense it incurred these books have yet to reach any noticeable level of success.
People just love to hate her
This is the conundrum with people like Snooki, people love to watch her and then hate her for what she does or how she acts. Essentially the reason why she is the breakout start of the show is because she is so outlandish and brash at times. It is this personality that has helped her gain some notaritary in the press and helped her land some other deals.
One judge stated after sentencing her to a crime she committed in season three of the Jersey Shore that Snooki is becoming a Lindsay Lohan wannabe. While the correlation between Lindsay Lohan and Snooki is tough to justify it is clear that if Nicole doesn’t straighten up then she could land into some serious trouble with the law.
Many people have complained it is these shows that exemplify what is wrong with this generation. Honestly those who act like these people on this show just show no creativity or any judgment. Those that claim that it was the Jersey Shore that influenced those to act a certain way just show how little intelligence they have.
Clearly as long as shows such as Jersey Shore continue to be a hit on television they will continue to be seen by the rest of us. Do these personalities deserve the amount of attention they receive? That is a whole different debate.
Michael Sorrentino is also known as The Situation on the reality television show called “The Jersey Shore” and from all accounts seems quite into himself. Having appeared on that reality television show catapulted this man into fame and a lot of money. Many women just love to see his abs which is quite eager to show off at various events and shows.
However, Michael does seem to be a bit more in depth then the character he seems to like to portray on television. For instance he has appeared in a Public Service Announcement with Bristol Palin to try and prevent teen pregnancy.
Perhaps one thing to note is that Michael is one of the most highly paid reality television stars and the proof of this was that he was paid 5 Million through the various deals he was able to get. That means he was only second to Kim Kardashian in terms of earnings for that year.
As well Michael is also an animal lover and helped with PETA’s campaign to help spread awareness of the need of spraying and neutering your pets. The image he conveys on television may not always be the most accurate and complete image of this man, he seems far more complex.
Before he reached his fame he was an assistant manager at a health and fitness club, that is perhaps how he got to be so fit. After that stint as a manager of a fitness club he decided to go into male underwear modeling, and that is what later propelled his career on television and the later millions he made.
D.J. Pauly D is perhaps known to those who choose to watch the television show Jersey Shore. As you can also imagine he works as a professional D.J. for many clubs and other venues in and around the area, as well as traveling whenever he is hired to do so.
Since the Jersey Shore could be canceled at any time Pauly D are fortunate to have his own spinoff show to keep him busy and the money flowing. That show is called the Pauly D Project and it began in March, 2012.
Pauly D was born Paul DelVecchio in Providence, Rhode Island on July 5th, 1980. Having never really auditioned for the show the Jersey Show Pauly D was a bit surprised by it all. Basically he was approached through a message on Myspace from the representatives of MTV and then later on he was cast on the show.
Now, this is one cast member who really had a career before the show and the show is what helped propel him forward. Paul does have some pretty rabid fans before he even joined the Jersey Shore and those same fans helped him later get music deals with 50 Cent and also would open for Britney Spears on her next tour.
Basically what qualified Paul for his own spin off show was the fact that he was not a basket case like the other members of the Jersey Shore crew. The producers typically look for people who are easy to work with and Paul seemed to fit that bill quite nicely. As well it helps that Pauly D is not always seen as drunken mess or having antics with other members on the show.
If you were one of the people who were fanatically following the reality TV show called the “Jersey Shore“, or if you only want to know something about the term “Guido”, you’ve come to the right place. Today we’re going to talk about the facts that surround this term, and we’re also going to bust some commonly spread myths about it.
Basically, “Guido” is a term for Italian Americans who conduct themselves in a macho manner, and are often being thuggish. They also wear expensive and macho clothes, but we’ll talk about that later on.
The less known fact is that this term has changed its meaning several times. During the 50s and 60s this term had a much wider meaning. It was basically a slang name for every lower-class worker in America who had an Italian heritage. Today, the term is not exclusively meant for lower class workers, but for everyone that behaves in that manner, no matter the class that they come from.
The female version of the word is “Guidette”.
This word is a derivative from the Italian verb “guidare”, which means “to drive”. This means that Guido is basically a “driver”.
Clothing is the essential part of this term. That’s why we’re going to spend a lot of attention on this aspect.
3.1. Every t-shirt that a Guido wears has to be 2 or 3 numbers smaller because they really like to show off their chest, six-pack abs and those muscular arms. Also, it is not uncommon for them to wear an open shirt without sleeves, just to show their sculpted body.
3.2. The Guidos are known for wearing running suits (track suits). This piece of clothing is so popular with them, that they call it the “Guido Tuxedo”. The jacket is never fully zipped.
3.3. No matter the place where a Guido lives, he always wears the same type of a baseball cap: the NYC baseball cap which is 10 degrees tilted (this is the minimum). The second head clothing necessary for a real Guido is the Fedora. It is basically a funny looking hat which has to be tilted up or down.
3.4. Guidos are also known for wearing bandanas. The bandanas are nothing more than a large handkerchief or a biker scarf which is folded into a sweatband. Then they just knot it tightly around the back of their head. They are also known for wearing sweatbands in different colors (pink or purple is not uncommon either).
3.5. The last important thing that makes a Guido is jewelry. They wear large crosses around their neck, but they can also wear the Rosary Necklaces too.
Guidos love to pose for the cameras. Some of the well known poses are the single finger pose, the kissy face pose, the abs pose and the Guido master pose.
Now you know the essential parts of the term “Guido”. This knowledge can be useful if you want to act like one, or if you just wanted to know what the term means because you were watching the “Jersey Shore” reality TV series.
1. New Jersey is the first state where a dinosaur skeleton has been found on the American continent. It happened in 1858 in a place named Haddonfield. In fact, this event is considered to be the birth date of modern day paleontology. The skeleton found there was complete. They called it Hadrosaurus, and it became an official dinosaur of the New Jersey state. However, the official animal of the state is actually a horse. You can see it on the emblem.

Jersey Shore was one of the most famous and craziest reality television series on MTV. It ran for 3 years, and then it was shut down on December 20th, 2012.
Basically, it all started with the idea of Anthony Beltempo, an American-Italian producer, who decided to shoot a reality show which is based on the “guido” lifestyle. Then, the executive producer, SallyAnn Salsano, decided to combine this idea with an idea of her own: to put these guidos into a house on the Jersey Shore (which is in the State of New Jersey).
At first, the idea was to shoot a documentary, but the MTV networks president felt that the show would be a lot more popular if it catered to the younger audience. Basically, he decided that the show should have the elements of boldness, loudness and youth. That’s how the idea for Jersey Shore was born.
The show’s premise is simple: it follows 8 young people of “guido” background who spend their summer in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Of course, they do lots of mischief, they have sex with each other, they party, they drink, and they argue.
It is interesting that one of the cast members, Nicole Polizzi, didn’t have nice words for the show while being interviewed by the Rolling Stone Magazine. She said that she became paranoid because of all the cameras that were set up in the house. The fact of the matter is that there were 35 RC cameras set up in the house. She went on to say that she became paranoid because she was constantly conscious that someone is watching here. She explained that this was the sole reason why they all went crazy. They were basically quarantined for two months without cell phones, Internet or TV. For her, nothing was normal at all.
The interesting fact is that they were taking 2-3 hour showers, because this was the only time that the cameras weren’t allowed to follow them. This is a little known fact, because people who watched the series never noticed that they took so many hours just to take a shower.
From the very beginning, the producers have had a lot of problems to start the shooting. At first, nobody was willing to accept them, because the locals knew that this kind of a reality show would bring bad reputation to their communities.
The other problem that they faced was the fact that there was a huge need to change the scripting and to take a new direction. Although the opposition insisted that the show would be in a form of a documentary, the MTV series president decided to format the show as a reality series, rather than a documentary. This was the saving grace for Anthony Beltempo who really wanted to put the idea into action.
The casting was done in a very informal way. They were basically looking for stereotypical guidos. The more muscles, and the spikier hair they had, the better the chance that they would get in. In the end, the final casting crew (which later on experienced a few changes) was crystalized.
